I just finished the installation of the Silencer SE fan upgrade. The upgrade
is available from:
Mobius Products
5300 Broadway Terrace
Oakland,CA 94618
The installation should only be attempted by someone who has some knowlegde
of hardware. It is not by any means difficult, but one must be careful about
such things as static electricity, comming in contact with High Voltage on
the CRT tube, and the possibility of breaking the neck of the CRT it you
are not watching what you are doing. The instructions are straight
forward and easy to follow. They estimate about 15 minutes to install it
and I found the installation to take just about that.
The fan comes with a TORX-15 screw driver and cost is a mere $49.95.
The manufacturer claims the fan maintains better than the temperature
recommended by Apple and virtually eliminates the screen flicker.
Hey guys - it works! I can even hear my Jasmine 80 now! Don't pay Apple
90 bux when you can get this fan now and be sure that it is quiet!
Here's what they say about the fan:
The SE Silencer, a precision-built axial flow fan quietly maintains the Mac
at factory-recommended temperatures. Advanced blade design allows the
SE Silencer to operate at lower spped than the original-equipment fan yet
circulate air more efficiently. The SE Silencer actually moves more air
than the original SE fan. SOlid ball-bearing construction means years
of ultra quiet operation.
The fan comes with a 2 year warrantee. (But if your SE burns up, they
wont buy you a new one - but don't worry, it wont if you are careful
installing it)
The air comming from the back of my SE is nice and cool, and I have both
the Apple Internal 20 and Radius Accellerator card.
Good luck and keep cool (AND QUIET!)
Best Regards,
Tony Buscaglia (K2NV)
